Summer demand surges: how temporary structures for events help increase venue capacity
August 13, 2026
By Claire Rooney

As summer approaches, many venues face a familiar challenge: how to increase capacity without disrupting day-to-day operations. With demand rising across corporate events and private hire, temporary structures for events are becoming an increasingly practical way to create additional space quickly and efficiently.

Peak season presents a clear opportunity. More bookings, more footfall and higher revenue potential. But without the right infrastructure in place, that increase in demand can quickly put pressure on service, staffing and the overall guest experience.

What are temporary structures for events?

Temporary structures for events provide flexible, scalable space that can be installed on-site and configured around the needs of the venue. From covered dining areas and bar extensions to fully enclosed event spaces and back-of-house facilities, they allow venues to expand without the time, cost or disruption of permanent construction.

Often delivered through temporary marquee hire, these structures can be adapted to suit different environments, layouts and event types, making them a practical solution for seasonal demand.

Why summer demand creates operational pressure

For many venues, the challenge isn’t just about space, it’s about how that space functions under pressure.

Increased demand often affects:

  • Service flow and staffing efficiency
  • Kitchen and bar capacity
  • Guest comfort and experience
  • Access routes and site logistics

Trying to accommodate more guests within an existing footprint can lead to bottlenecks, particularly during peak service times. Without additional space, even well-run venues can start to feel stretched.

Why temporary event structures are a practical solution

Temporary event structures allow venues to increase capacity in a controlled and manageable way, without disrupting existing operations.

By expanding on-site, venues can:

  • Keep service and staffing centralised
  • Maintain control over guest experience
  • Add capacity exactly where it’s needed
  • Scale space up or down depending on demand

This flexibility is particularly valuable during the summer season, where booking patterns can shift quickly, and demand can be difficult to predict.

Using temporary structures to increase event capacity

Temporary structures for events can be used in a variety of ways to support both front-of-house and operational needs.

Common applications include:

  • Additional covered dining or seating areas
  • Outdoor event spaces for private hire
  • Bar extensions or pop-up service points
  • Catering prep and back-of-house support
  • Storage for equipment and supplies

In many cases, the biggest impact comes from relieving pressure behind the scenes. Creating dedicated space for catering, storage or staff areas allows the main venue to operate more efficiently and improves the overall experience for guests.

Maintaining the look and feel of your venue

One of the common concerns with temporary expansion is how it integrates with the existing venue.

Modern temporary marquee hire for events offers a range of options to ensure the additional space complements its surroundings. Structures can include:

  • Solid or clear walling
  • Integrated flooring
  • Lighting and heating
  • Interior finishes aligned to the venue or event

This allows the space to feel like a natural extension of the venue, rather than a separate or temporary addition.

Planning ahead for the summer season

The most successful use of temporary event structures starts with early planning.

By considering capacity requirements ahead of peak season, venues can:

  • Design layouts that support service flow
  • Schedule installation around existing operations
  • Ensure space is aligned with upcoming bookings

Planning ahead also allows venues to think more strategically about how temporary space will be used across multiple events, rather than reacting to short-term demand.

Turning seasonal demand into long-term opportunity

While summer demand is often short-term, the benefits of additional space can extend beyond a single season.

Temporary structures give venues the opportunity to test new layouts, event formats or service models without long-term commitment. What works well during peak periods can often be adapted for future use, helping venues make more informed decisions about their space.

Affordable rates and flexible hire terms

Whether you need a marquee for a single weekend event or for the entire summer, we offer flexible hire periods to suit your plans and flexible payment plans.

Seasonal demand is a positive sign for any venue, but it needs to be supported by the right infrastructure.

Temporary structures for events provide a flexible, practical way to increase capacity while maintaining control over operations and guest experience. With the right approach, venues can respond to demand confidently and make the most of the opportunities the summer season brings.

Fantastic support to us
Trafalgar Structures have been a fantastic support to us since we reopened after lockdown. The provision of a high quality marquee to help facilitate our opening strategy meant we could cater for adult and child classes whilst following the required government guidance. The service and workmanship from the team was first class and the team were always happy to help out if any issues arose and amendments to the marquee were needed. I look forward to working with the team again and would fully recommend for any marquee needs

The Lid on the Lawn
‘The Lid on the Lawn’ installed by Trafalgar Structures enabled us to reopen safely after the July 2021 easing of the government guidelines, within 10 days we had a fully operational table service outdoor restaurant. Such has been the successful transformation of the outside space, we have kept the marquee for a longer term hire. The demand for outdoor dining and eventing has increased exponentially and the marquee has enabled us to confidentially offer weather proof ‘outdoor events’. This is now a permanent fixture with an additional full takeaway facility for visitors to the estate. Team Trafalgar are always on hand and have also reacted extremely quickly to the last minute nature of corporate event enquiries. Many thanks.

I cannot find fault in anything they did

We used Trafalgar Structures at the start of lock down. We were very fortunate to be able to remain fully working however, as everyone did, we had to make some major adaptions on our site to accommodate the 2m distancing. I came across Trafalgar Structures and I found them to be extremely helpful, knowledgeable and helpful. We had constant changes to the brief but that didn’t matter to James and his team, they were very accommodating and continued to be very helpful and help fulfil the works we required as well as give a lot of suggestions to make this work. The team that erected/ dismantled the marquee were extremely professional and friendly and helpful throughout the 2 days. I would highly recommend Trafalgar Structures and I would certainly use them again. I cannot find fault in anything they did. Thank you all so much for your help and guidance

Trafalgar Structures came to the rescue when the school needed additional outdoor teaching and testing facilities during the Covid pandemic. The cost of hire was extremely competitive and more than reasonable, particularly when you consider their services are much in demand. From the MD to the installers on the ground they were easy to deal with – nothing was too much trouble. Even last minute changes, and their after sales service was just as good. Its not every day you hire a marquee, but if I have to in the future, Trafalgar will be my first port of call. A huge thank you to James and the team!
