Trafalgar Structures was appointed to provide temporary warehousing and secure storage for a major UK national infrastructure project, operating within a live construction environment. As an award-winning, provider of temporary and semi-permanent structures, Trafalgar was brought in to create a protected, weatherproof space capable of storing sensitive electrical components until they were ready for installation, all while meeting some of the most demanding compliance requirements the team has worked to.
The challenge
The brief centred on a single, critical requirement: a temporary warehouse area capable of protecting electrical components on a live
construction site from the British climate between delivery and installation. Left exposed, these components risked damage that could delay the wider infrastructure programme, therefore the structure needed to be weathertight, secure, and ready fast.
What set this project apart was the environment it needed to be delivered in. This was a live, high-security
construction site, and every element of the installation had to work within its rules: extensive
health & safety requirements, strict access controls, and complex logistics planning coordinated across multiple stakeholders. Every person, vehicle, and delivery on site had to comply with site-specific procedures before being granted access, there was no room for shortcuts.
This was also the first time Trafalgar had worked with this client, which meant building trust and demonstrating compliance credentials from a standing start, under the same scrutiny as every other contractor on site.
The solution
Trafalgar Structures provided a complete temporary structure solution: a 12m x 24m structure on 3m legs, engineered with bespoke openings to allow forklift trucks and delivery vehicles to move in and out freely, which meant it could be used whatever the
weather. Alongside additional secure storage containers for the electrical components themselves.
Beyond the physical structure, our team managed the project end to end, project management, logistics planning, delivery coordination, installation, and full compliance management. That meant securing lifting approvals, completing mandatory site inductions, meeting strict PPE requirements,
environmental requirements, and working within scheduled delivery and vehicle access windows set by the principal contractor. It also meant close, ongoing coordination with several other contractors and site management teams, all operating under the same exacting construction-sector controls.
The full installation, structure and storage was completed in just 4 days, with no additional extras required. Whilst
The results
The finished structure gave the site exactly what it needed: a weather-protected, secure operational space that let work continue without the time, cost, or disruption of permanent construction. Electrical components could be delivered, stored, and protected from the elements right up until installation, keeping delivery schedules on track and removing weather as a source of delay.
More broadly, the installation supported operational continuity across the wider programme, giving the client a
compliant, safe, and reliable space precisely taking into consideration long term
temporary structure requirements.
