Lady Eleanor Holles School is an independent girls school founded in 1710, and currently based in Hampton, South
West London. The school has around 900 pupils.
Trafalgar Structures have been working with the school’s facilities team to create additional space as a result of social distancing measures due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The first issue presented was how to create additional space for the music school, and create adequate space for students to sing, whilst socially distanced at two metres.
After two months of working together, the team at Lady Eleanor Holles approached Trafalgar with a second issue, how to create additional space for the Sixth Form. A space that could be used for a number of purposes, including an additional dining area, and one for breakout space.
Trafalgar Structures proposed a roof only solution for the music school, thus allowing the free flowing movement of air, as per the specific guidelines for music practice in an education setting.
For the Sixth Form Centre, the Trafalgar Team reassessed the site within 48hours of the initial conversation. Upon assessing the site, we advised two potential sites for the structure. It was agreed that locating the structure on the school pitches next to
the Sixth Form Centre would present best value option for the school. As with all our proposals, we included three fit out options, and tailored flexible hire plans given the circumstances around the pandemic
Trafalgar Structures worked closely with the facilities team firstly to create a roof only structure adjacent to the music school. The
9m wide structure, without walls, allowed the students to sing, whilst in a Covid safe environment. Due to the requirement, this was a 5 week hire.
Based on the requirements, we installed a 12x21m structure, with a hard floor, solid doors and a thermostatically controlled heating system with external bunded fuel tank. To maximise the flexibility and use of the space, we also supplied a full height partition so the space can be segregated. Due to the time sensitive nature of the project for the Sixth Form Centre, we worked closely with the facilities team at the school to build the structure over the weekend and handover prior to school starting. This included changes to the design during the final stages of the build.
